VHA Health & Home Support honours the memory of John Shedden
VHA helped care for our son for fourteen years. Shortly after our son John began his career as a software developer, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Within a year he required a cane and then a walker to get around. Within the next year he needed an electric wheelchair.
VHA’s trained Attendant Care Workers visited John each morning to get ready for his day and they returned in the evening to help him prepare for bed. His disabilities multiplied rapidly and his care became very complex. VHA’s Attendants were caring, professional, exceptionally well trained, and a comfort to have in our house with our son.
My husband and I were full time caregivers, and so that we could rest, VHA provided many respite hours. John’s care was exceptional; the respite hours supported us as caregivers, and instead of being in a long-term care facility for fourteen years, from 2003 to 2017, John was able to live and participate in family life at home.
